Prof. Dr. Mansour A. M. Al-Garni

 Professor

Profile

Prof. Dr. Mansour A. Al-Garni holds a B.Sc. (1993) in Geophysics from King Abdulaziz University (KAU), Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, an M.Sc. (1996) in Geophysics from Colorado School of Mines (CSM), Golden, Colorado, USA, and a Ph.D. (2001) in Geophysics from Texas A & M University (TAMU), College Station, Texas, USA. In 1993, he worked as a Geophysicist at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, United States Geological Survey Mission (USGS), Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and as a Demonstrator of Geophysics at KAU, where he became an Assistant Professor of Geophysics in 2002. He has been promoted to Associate Professor in 2006 and to full Professor of Geophysics in 2010. Furthermore, he has been assigned as the Chairman of the Geophysics Department (2003–2011), Vice Dean (2014), and Vice Dean for graduate studies and scientific research (2015–2017) as well as the Chairman of the Geoexploration Department. He had worked as full-time United Nations Development Program (UNDP) expert at the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) (2018-2023).  His research interests cover a wide spectrum of disciplines such as controlled-source electromagnetic induction, electrical methods, gravity, and magnetic methods, near-surface applied Geophysics, forward and inverse modeling in geophysics, environmental and engineering Geophysics, environmental site characterization, ground-penetrating radar, hydrogeophysics, and mining Geophysics: theory, data processing, and interpretation. He has reviewed a lot of academic works whether scientific journal manuscripts or technical reports and has been involved in many committees including those for M.Sc. and Ph.D. examinations. His remarkable efforts in the establishment and development of various projects were reflected in valuable academic and professional successes and achievements. He has conducted (as a principal investigator (PI)/Co-PI or a member of the research team) more than 15 research projects for the public and private sectors, the most recent of which involved Electromagnetic (EM) methods in the time-domain EM (TDEM) and frequency-domain EM (FDEM), Direct Current (DC) resistivity, Spontaneous Potential (SP), Induced Polarization (IP), and magnetic methods for groundwater and mineral explorations in the Arabian Shield. He has published more than 65 research articles in international indexed and peer-refereed journals as well as three books in the field of earth sciences. He has been listed in the "Marquis Who's who in the World" as one of the world’s foremost achievers in the field of Geophysics in the 28th Edition (2011).  In 2021, he has also been chosen and listed in the "Marquis Who's who in the World" as one of the top 3% of the professionals in the world. In 2015, Prof. Al-Garni joined the Arabian Journal of Geosciences (AJGS) as an Associate Editor who is responsible for evaluating submissions in the fields of Theoretical and Applied Exploration Geophysics as well as reviewing and evaluating hundreds of submitted manuscripts to different worldwide well-respected national and international journals.  While working at KAU, he has been a member of many committees and councils whether within the levels of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and the KAU.  In 2018, he joined the Ministry of Environment, Water & Agriculture (MEWA) as a full-time advisor and a UNDP expert where he retuned back to KAU in 2023.  His duty roles are writing Terms of Reference (TOR) for MEWA projects, supervising projects, reviewing reports, capacity building for MEWA employees, visiting field sites, writing reports, involvement in many committees on the MEWA level, representing MEWA at the national and international levels, and a member of the MEWA’s team in the Group of Twenty (G20) of the water group, which has begun under the presidency of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
